I created More to Explore to share my love of Slovenia’s mountains, forests, rivers and lakes and to bring people and cultures together on adventures that stretch beyond the time you are here exploring with me.
Inviting enduring connections, joyfulness and slow travel, More to Explore is a shared ethos that grows and evolves alongside each journey into Slovenia’s wild places.
About me

After many years exploring Slovenia, hiking, snowshoeing and climbing, Mikaela and her young family moved from their home in Wales to a small dispersed settlement in Idrija Geopark in 2021.
Mikaela brings decades of experience in Outdoor Education, Photography and as an expedition leader to More to Explore. Having trained and interviewed prospective leaders and designed and co-ordinated complex outdoor learning programmes, More to Explore is built on carefully crafted foundations.

Mikaela is an International Mountain Leader (IML) and member of BAIML (the British Association for International Mountain Leaders).
The IML qualification trains and assesses leaders to work with groups hiking and snowshoeing in mountainous environments all around the world.
Only a qualified IML carries the UIMLA (Union of International Mountain Leaders Associations) badge and carnet.
