  • Inspire me!

Each day we will enjoy peaceful walks or E-bike rides, featuring natural pools, rivers or waterfalls for dipping. Every detail is chosen with sustainability, connection and wellbeing in mind. Our breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be locally sourced and made with care, whether we are visiting a farm, enjoying a picnic, or sharing each others’ company in a family run restaurant, alongside opportunities to visit local producers for tasting experiences, all found along the banks of the river.

  • Who's coming?

Everyone who loves the water! This trip is focused on enjoying Slovenia’s incredible rivers and waterfalls from wherever you are at, whether thats simply supporting a friend, partner or family member, dipping a toe, or full immersion, everyone is welcome. This is not a distance swimming holiday, and many of our spots are small, natural pools, some are deep, but most have areas where you can remain in-depth should you wish.

  • Leading together

We believe in the power of walking and dipping and the positive impacts time spent in nature can have for ourselves, each other and our understanding of the natural world. We protect what we love! We are also committed to giving something back and for this special trip, we are collaborating with the wonderful UK charity Mental Health Swims, and to celebrate, 50% of our profits from our first September trip will be donated to MHS to help them continue their important work. Itinerary

Including hidden waterfalls, deep gorges and peaceful rivers, Wild Swim Slovenia offers a truly unique experience along one of Slovenia’s most beautiful rivers from the source of the Idrijca to its confluence with the Soča river.

With an emphasis on exploring, this is a trip shaped by the river, and inspired by Mental Health Swims and the New Personal Best campaign. There are no average swim distances, with the focus on immersion in nature and how that makes us feel.

The itinerary below is offered as guidance for our trip, but we are always flexible based on the conditions and the group.

Day-by-day

  • 80km: Transfer from Ljubljana airport to Idrija Geopark, approximately 1hr 15mins.

Mikaela will meet you at the airport and after welcoming the group, we will set off driving through beautiful scenery, past forests, meadows and rolling hills to Idrija Geopark, where we will settle in to our accommodation and enjoy dinner together.

  • Distance: 9km

    Ascent/descent: 240M

Duration: 3.5 hour walk including breaks, swim after 7km with 2 hours for swimming, picnic and enjoying our surroundings.

After a slow breakfast, tasting some of the region’s local produce, we will drive up the winding road to Vojsko, a small scenic village up high on a forested plateau above the Idrija fault. We’ll cross through meadows and journey to the incredible Hudournik viewpoint with views across the fault to the Julian Alps before descending into a hidden narrow valley with 3 pristine waterfalls. Here we will have the opportunity to dip and swim in serene pools surrounded by wild forest. In the nearby meadows the Idrijca river is formed.

  • E-Bike day

    Distance: 32km

    Ascent/descent: 670M

Duration: 2-3 hours cycling via e-bikes with 2 hours for dipping throughout the day.

E-Bikes are one of our favourite ways to explore Idrija Geopark and today we will set off on a journey, stopping along the way to swim and dip, with the white pebble banks inviting us in where the river slows to form unbelievable emerald pools. This section of river is steeped in history, with scientists, botanists, conflict and engineering all playing an important part in its story. We’ll pass a number of globally significant historic dams called Klavže, constructed in the 18thC to transport wood downstream, these structures are known as the Slovenian Pyramids and are unique to this region.

  • Distance: 60KM (driving) approximately 6km walking.

    Ascent/descent: 370M

Duration: 3hrs walking, approx 1hr for dipping and 2-3hrs for Divje Baba and Zajec Brewery visits.

Departing our accommodation, we will journey along the Idrijca river, stopping at 2 beautiful swimming spots, where this wide, crystal clear river deepens, perfect for jumping, or swimming upstream and floating back to the beach. We will stop at the local Zajec brewery on our way to sample some craft beer and cheese and visit Divje Baba, one of the most important archeological sites of the stone age world, where the world’s oldest musical instrument was discovered. Today’s journey ends at the turqouise waters of Most Na Soči where we will check into our accommodation with views over the water and direct access for an evening dip.

  • Distance: 5km

    Ascent/descent: 90M

Duration: 1.5hr of walking with up to 2 hours for swimming and relaxing

Rise early for a sunrise dip and enjoy breakfast on the terrace overlooking this pretty village and the striking blue of the Soča river. After breakfast we will journey to a nearby village, with the river flowing below. Picking our way through the forest we will emerge at a section of river characterised by smooth rocks and calm water. Here we will enjoy time to dip, eat a picnic lunch and the sounds of the river before walking back to our transport and a short drive to our accommodation.

  • Distance: 8.4km

    Ascent/descent: 300M

Duration: 3hr walking with up to 3 hours for swimming, picnics and relaxing

Today we will journey into the heart of the Julian Alps, passing by the small mountain town of Bovec for a walk along the most beautiful section of the Soča way path between the Lepena confluence and the village of Trenta, with 2 stops for dipping at some of our favourite peaceful spots. Staying close to the source of the Soča river, we will enjoy the myths and magic surrounding this special place and enjoy a traditional, newly renovated mountain cottage (koča) for our accommodation.

  • Distance: 89KM driving less than 5KM walking

    Ascent/descent: 100M

Duration: up to 2 hours of easy walking with up to 1 hour for swimming and relaxing

We started our first full day with a visit to the Idrijca spring, and we will begin our last day with a walk to the spring of the iconic Soča river. Two very special rivers, with two totally different characters! After returning to the Koča, we will set off over the Vršič pass, with a break to enjoy the view at the top, before descending to the cold waters of Lake Jasna for a final dip before settling into our final accommodation of the trip.

  • Today we say our goodbyes! We will help to arrange your transport back to the airport, or you may choose to spend the day exploring Ljubljana independently, before flying home later in the afternoon.
